OpenAccess Receives Another Industry Boost; New EDA and User Company Members Underscore the Need for a Powerful and Interoperable Solution
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 2002--The OpenAccess
Coalition, a group of top electronics companies focused on creating a
standard for true interoperability among integrated circuit (IC)
design tools, announced today that three companies, Tektronix Inc.
(NYSE:TEK), Celestry Design Technologies and Mitsubishi Electric
Corporation (FTSE:6503q.l), have joined the OpenAccess Coalition.
OpenAccess, the industry's first open, standard API/database
solution, is enabling the creation of a truly interoperable
infrastructure for electronic design technology.
"Tektronix is committed to the OpenAccess Coalition and supporting
the OpenAccess standard," said Jack Hurt, director, mixed-signal
design tools, Tektronix. "In the past, we avoided EDA vendor-specific
databases for our analog requirements because they were proprietary
and provided insufficient tools for the design of our leading-edge
ASICs. OpenAccess is the first database solution to meet our
requirements for technology and extensibility combined with an open
API standard that is also supported by a solid and growing base of EDA
tools. The OpenAccess common data model will allow Tektronix to create
tomorrow's high performance ASICs with a flexible, best-in-class mix
of our own internal tools and commercial tools."
"At Celestry, we are impressed with the growing number of
industry-leading companies that are building tools and flows based on
OpenAccess," said Zhihong Liu, president and CEO, Celestry Design
Technologies. "We joined the OpenAccess Coalition because we recognize
the tremendous benefit and flexibility that interoperability brings to
our customers. We believe in the underlying technology of OpenAccess
and value the opportunity of becoming a member of the OpenAccess
Coalition to further the development and growth of the API standard. I
strongly encourage the rest of the industry to join in support of this
important effort."
"We are very encouraged by the continued growth of OpenAccess in
the industry and are excited to be joining the OpenAccess Coalition at
this time," said Yoshio Inoue, manager of the EDA technologies group
at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. "Interoperability and flexibility
are critical to our business, and OpenAccess meets these needs. We
welcome the rest of the industry to join the OpenAccess Community and
take advantage of these benefits."
"At Si2, we are extremely excited with the volume of quality
companies that have joined the OpenAccess initiative this quarter,"
said Steve Schulz, president and CEO, Silicon Integration Initiative
Inc. (Si2). "This increase in membership demonstrates the importance
the industry has placed on supporting an API/database solution, which
offers both interoperability and scalability. OpenAccess meets the
industry's needs for a solution that has the technological capability
to encompass more aspects of the design flow, while at the same time
offering high performance and high capacity. I welcome the rest of the
industry to join in this effort in the coming months."
About OpenAccess
OpenAccess is a community effort to provide true interoperability,
not just data exchange, among IC design tools through an open standard
data access interface (API) and reference database implementation
supporting that API for IC design. The OpenAccess technology will help
enable easy tool integration, smooth interoperability and faster
application development. The initiative is driven by the OpenAccess
Coalition, a neutral organization comprised of leading EDA and
electronics companies. The Coalition operates under the governance and
bylaws of Si2. For more information about OpenAccess, visit
